How did we choose the name “LAKOLA

Once the decision taken to go for this endeavor, the initiators of this THINK TANK went into long discussions in order to find a name that could best represent the depth of the philosophy that underlies the project.
Find here below a synthesis that gives an idea of the hot atmosphere which characterized that specific brain storming.

LEMALINKE opened a topic in our old Internet platform (SMART AFRICA: name was given by the initiator Bitacola) where he asked all of us to adopt once and for all and in 48 hours the name of our group. It was Friday October 17th, 2003. We had it on plan but never focused on it because we were very busy defining other aspects of the initiative.

Here is in summary how we came up with the name of this initiative:

Friday Oct. 17
1- Bro. LEMALINKE initially proposed 1)AFRICAN BRAINS, 2)AFRICAN ACTION, 3)MANDELA' S PATH, 4)FOLLOW ME!!

2- Bro Schumm_nde suggested FRIENDS OF CHAKA and declared that he was very serious.

3- LEMALINKE took charge again and gave another suggestion: La Kola. He also provided the following explanation: owing to the facts that just like the cola, knowledge and culture are things that are shared. Isn't this what the intention is all about?

Saturday Oct. 18
1-Bro. Colince alias Landry alias Bitacola alias Xtra_Bitacola thought of the following names 1)INSPIRATION MANDELA, 2)ACADEMY MANDELA, 3)MANDELA.

2- Bro. Lawyer gave his support to LA KOLA arguing against the use of the name Mandela that appears to be too common for him (because of the personality statute: he is comparable to an allive God, term used by Lawyer ).

3 - Bro Colince returned to the scene for what he called a LIVE brainstorming session. He ended up proposing PUSH FOR COMMUNITY BETTERMENT and COMMUNITY BETTERMENT ADVOCATES. His concern was to adopt a name that reflects more the objective of the initiative (Bro. Lawyer mentioned it early on).

4- Consequently, bro LEMALINKE abandoned his early proposals and proposed 1)"Kola: effective BRAIN STORMING", 2)"Kassala: African PRIDE", 3)"WEKANDOOIT".

5- Bitacola reminded LEMALINKE about the point mentioned by Lawyer in order to get him back his proposals (#3).

6- Bro. LEMALINKE conceded and proposed some other names: ECOPOL_AFRICA and LAKOLA_ECOPOL before announcing that it was going to lie down (it was certainly very late in his continent).

7- Colince living in a different continent (where nights come always later) took advantage of it to suggest: 1)Diaspora Coalition for Africa Renaissance, 2)Diaspora Contribution for Africa Renaissance, 3)KOLA Coalition for Social-Economic Africa Success to please bro . LEMALINKE.

Sunday Oct. 19 D-Day to make a decision

1-LEMALINKE disallowed Bitacola proposals and insisted on Ecopol_Africa which he justified by giving the following 7 reasons:
1)Easy to insert after a http//www.
2) Has an acceptable number of syllables, I will say max 6 not to be more complicated than CIN (Cameroon Info Net) .
3) Can refer to the contents of the debates.
4) Has a reference to our continent. Even if as I specified, it would be interesting in an initial approach to avoid to disperse too much by making some proposals relevant to the country before claiming to widen our sphere of activity.
5) Evocative for the French-speaking, English-speaking person and of course the bilingual one.
6) Reminiscent as much for the African than for the non-African.
7) Could be closely associated with the photograph of Mandela without making it shocking.

He concluded by saying “After reviewing all these criteria, I feel (without false jubilation égocentrico -Bitacolée) that «ECOPOL-AFRICA" is THE NAME, how could someone disagree?”

2- LEMALINKE added later on that ECOPOL_AFRICA.com domain was still not used. by anyone on the Web.

3- Sometimes in the afternoon/ morning (depending on where LEMALINKE/ Bitacola reside), Colince announced that if no objection was raised by the end of the day then the name was going to be ECOPOL_Africa.

4 - In the last seconds of the D-Day, when it appeared that we were about to adopt ECOPOL_AFRICA, bro. Bantu made an objection concerning the fact that the name was not in line with any African language. He then proposed HARAMBEE that means in Swahili language Working Together. This was the beginning of some long extra time.

5- Samory alias LEMALINKE who was certainly about to go to bed, was then called to remain awake very late at night (in his side of the world) if he wanted to defend his grounds. He could still find the energy to quickly surf the Net and to report that the domain HARAMBEE was already used by a different group. He also called on other volunteers to make known their opinion on the issue (to avoid a dead end).

6-BANTU answered back by quoting the list of 10 distinct groups using the name ECOPOL on the Web. LEMALINKE’s argument was no longer holding enough.

7- LEMALINKE conceded and temporarily withdrew (he probably needed to get prepared for work after a long night with no sleep). No final decision was consequently made by the end of the D- Day. We knew that we had to go on for more extra-time.

Monday Oct. 20
1-In the early morning hours (Bitacola side of the world), bro. Colince suggested that LEMALINKE come up with a name of compromise.

2-Bro. Bantu advised bro. LEMALINKE to propose one of the names he initially selected: La KOLA.
3- Bro SAMORY with no further hesitation approved. This then how our group adopted La Kola as our name.
IT WAS A VERY EXCITING, ENTERTAINING AND ENRICHING EXPERIENCE!!
